Taskforce extends submissions deadline for Discussion Paper 2

The Women's Safety and Justice Taskforce has extended the closing date for submissions on its second discussion paper by one week.

Submissions on Discussion Paper 2 – Women and Girls’ experience of the criminal justice system will now be accepted until Friday 30 July 2021.

The Chair of the Taskforce, the Honourable Margaret McMurdo AC, said the Taskforce extended the deadline as a result of ongoing COVID-19 response impacts on stakeholders.

‘The recent measures to respond to COVID-19 has impacted on stakeholders’ ability to gather feedback and prepare submissions,’ Ms McMurdo said.

‘It is important that the Taskforce remains flexible so we can hear many voices as possible.’

The discussion paper seeks community input on the Taskforce’s proposal to focus on women and girls’ experience of sexual violence in the criminal justice system, as well as the experience of women and girls as offenders.

The Taskforce is due to deliver its final report on Discussion Paper 2 in March 2022.

Please note: the submission deadline for Discussion Paper 1, Options for legislating against coercive control and the creation of a standalone domestic violence offence is this Friday 16 July 2021.
